If you have had a fragrant cypress growing on your property for several years or you are just thinking about purchasing this tree, it would be a good idea to learn about the simple rules that will make the plant a point of attraction for everyone who passes by.
There is no need to be afraid – caring for a cypress is not particularly difficult, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer.
The plant should be watered regularly, the soil around it should be loosened, fed and, of course, prepared for winter.
There is another mandatory procedure that is responsible for the appearance of the plant – crown formation.
If you don’t want to look at the thickets, but, on the contrary, prefer to admire well-groomed plantings of the correct shape, in the spring be sure to remove diseased, broken and frozen branches, while at the same time shaping the crown.
Please note: when carrying out sanitary pruning, you must not remove more than a third of the green mass.
Autumn is the right time for formative pruning.
During this period, it is worth removing a third of the current year's growth. Do not forget to maintain the natural shape of the crown. That's all: these simple steps are enough to make the cypress look well-groomed and please you and those around you.
