An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about another effective remedy.
You can’t overdo it with salt, because its excess in the soil interferes with the absorption of calcium and potassium.
To protect onions from the pest, it is better to use carrots. For example, if there are some root vegetables left from last year, you can prepare a remedy from them.
Carrots need to be grated, covered with water and the bed watered. The smell of the root vegetable will scare away the onion fly.
If you don’t have carrots or don’t want to use them to combat the pest, you can use insecticidal preparations.
For example, "Zemlin" will protect plantings from onion fly. "Provotox" is more often used against wireworm, but it also helps against flies.
