There are 3 reasons why tomatoes “burst” right in the garden.
It happens that summer residents pick cracked fruits from the bushes instead of smooth and beautiful ones.
This appearance of the crop appears not only due to heat or heavy watering.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why tomatoes crack.
There are several causes, but it is usually the combination of them that leads to a disastrous result. Individually, they rarely cause serious damage to the crop.
Why do tomatoes crack?
Problems begin when the plant lacks phosphorus. If the phenomenon is widespread, it is necessary to apply the appropriate fertilizer.
Overripe fruits that should have been picked from the bush a long time ago also “burst”. This happens faster against the background of a phosphorus deficiency. Due to the lack of the macronutrient, the peel is stretched more.
Uneven watering only makes the situation worse. All these problems together lead to massive cracking of fruits. Therefore, the following is important.
1. Avoid phosphorus deficiency.
2. Harvest on time.
3. Conduct uniform watering, i.e. moisten the soil according to a certain schedule. It is not allowed when the soil remains dry for a long time and then is poured with liters of water at one time.
