All plants love water, and even potatoes need to be watered after planting, but not all summer residents know about this.
The vegetable does not require any special care, except for weeding, hilling and collecting beetles. For many, this is the main list of works. And it is completely in vain that watering is excluded in this case.
Why water potatoes
It is believed that it grows well anyway. But much depends on the soil composition and climate. If the soil is heavy, then moisture is retained in it for a long time. Light sandy soils do not dry out faster, and here you can’t do without watering.
Otherwise, you need to focus on the weather, the amount of precipitation and the condition of the plant.
How to water correctly
1. This is not about manual or mechanized labor. One option is watering at the root.
Here you will have to bow to each bush and carefully pour water from a watering can, almost a bucket, onto the bush. Not suitable for large areas.
2. The furrow watering method looks much more practical. It is suitable for a medium-sized garden, especially if the potatoes are growing on a slope. Then it is enough to place a hose on top and supply water. After a while, it is moved to another furrow.
3. Irrigation - when water is supplied from a hose from above, also suitable for potatoes. You can use nozzles and other means of automatic irrigation, which cope with the task quite effectively.
How many times to water
Summer residents call three important stages in the life of potatoes:
- bloom;
- tuber formation;
- maturation.
At this time, the plantings must be watered.
