To harvest huge, juicy bulbs, and not small, rotten fruits, it is important to follow the watering rules.
Many summer residents believe that onions are easy to "overwater". However, this issue is not so clear-cut.
An expert of the online publication " Belnovosti ", agronomist and author of the blog "Conscious Gardening" Anastasia Kovrizhnykh gave recommendations on watering onions.
Moisture and onions
Onions prefer damp soil. The plant tolerates drought much worse. The plant can be "overwatered" only if puddles form on the bed.
Factors that influence the frequency of watering:
- soil type;
- air temperature;
- planting density.
But it is worth remembering that onions are moisture-loving crops, so they need to be watered regularly. However, moderation is important in this matter.
Watering by stages of development
The most crucial moment comes at the beginning of the growing season. During this period, regular but moderate watering is needed. There should be no puddles on the bed.
When the feather growth has decreased, reduce the amount of water. Stop watering when the feather has "lain down".
