In spring, summer residents try not to postpone tree pruning until later, so as not to harm the plants and not lose the harvest.
Not only the timing, but also the purpose of pruning is important. Sometimes gardeners are too zealous, and sometimes they remove too few shoots, so the result of the work done is small.
An expert of the online publication " Belnovosti ", agronomist and author of the blog "Conscious Gardening" Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about the nuances of spring pruning of fruit trees.
The specialist noted that gardeners often shorten branches by a third, including shoots that grow inward. The situation is similar with branches that show signs of disease. Such shoots should be completely removed. Only healthy and strong branches are shortened.
The expert pointed out that sometimes gardeners remove too many shoots. This approach will not be beneficial either, since an excess of wounds for the tree is fraught with a drop in yield. In addition, one should not forget about treating the cuts, otherwise an infection can penetrate through them.
Pruning must be done before the sap starts to flow. If the procedure is done late, the tree's immunity will weaken, there will be fewer fruits, and any disease will cause a lot of trouble.
