Many summer residents treat beet and carrot tops as garbage.
Instead of throwing plant waste into the trash container, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh advises using it as fertilizer.
When the leaves of these crops decompose, they produce compost, which should be added to the holes when planting.
But if you don’t have time to spend time preparing compost, you can get another fertilizer from the tops, rich in phosphorus and potassium – ash.
It is enough to wait until the above-ground part of the root crops dries out and burn the plant remains. Important: to get a decent amount of ash, there should be a lot of tops.
In mid-July, plant growers begin preparing fertilizer with beet leaves.
To do this, the tops should be chopped into pieces approximately 5 cm in size, and then transferred to a suitable container.
Add here nettles, quinoa, burdock, as well as a bunch of straw and one kg of soil.
Now cover the container with a lid and leave it to infuse at a temperature above +20 degrees. When the composition is ready, it can be applied under the root once every 10-14 days.
