Seedlings are faced with a variety of troubles at the first stages of development. A series of misfortunes can begin with contaminated soil, the appearance of pests, a lack of nutrients, and end with a banal lack of sunlight.
In this case, the seedlings stretch out and may one day die.
Reasons
The main reason is incorrect calculation of the timing of sowing seeds for seedlings. After that, the weather, the temperature in the house or a poor-quality lamp for additional lighting are to blame.
If you leave everything like this, the seedlings will stretch out, become thin, weak, and one day may wither away completely.
How to save seedlings
First, you need to take into account the air temperature in the room and the amount of daylight.
If there is little light and the temperature is high, then the plants are moved to a cooler place, taking into account the varietal characteristics of the crop.
Secondly, at this time you need to reduce watering and stop fertilizing.
Thirdly, in such conditions it would be correct to remove the seedlings to a dark place.
By the way, in the dacha environment you can often hear that if time is lost and the shoots do not show promise, it is better to re-sow. Even if you manage to save the seedlings, their development will be disrupted, and the yield will decrease.
The seedlings will not stretch if:
- keep the containers warm until the seedlings appear (25-27 degrees), and then put them in a room with a temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius;
- when cotyledon leaves appear and open, the temperature should be lowered to 18 degrees during the day for 3-4 days. At night, a decrease to 16 is allowed;
- turn on the backlight in clear weather from morning until sunrise, and also in the evening after sunset until 10-11 pm; in cloudy weather, the lamp is not turned off all day.
The seedlings are provided with additional light until they are picked.
