In order for carrots to sprout without problems, it is necessary to prepare the bed in advance and observe the sowing dates.
Then, in a normal situation, shoots will appear within 14-30 days. But this is possible if the air temperature outside is at least 8-10 degrees or 16-20 in the greenhouse.
Why the carrots didn't sprout
1. Perhaps the gardener was in a hurry and planted the seeds earlier than expected. Being late with planting, you can place the seeds in dry soil, which also ends unsuccessfully.
2. If we are talking about winter planting, then there is no point in rushing with sowing in the fall. A thaw can lead to premature germination of seeds and subsequent death of seedlings after the onset of cold weather.
3. Soil is another mistake. Carrots do not tolerate large amounts of organic matter (manure or chicken droppings). Carrots can be planted in the same place no earlier than after 3 years.
4. Another important point is the shelf life of seeds, which does not exceed 4-5 years. However, gardeners do not recommend storing seeds for more than 2 years.
5. When planting in spring, the seeds are placed at a depth of up to 2 cm, and one must not forget that carrots love water, and its lack leads to low germination.
What to do with carrots
You can add fertilizer to the bed (for example, granulated urea), loosen the soil, and also try covering the soil with agrofibre or film.
If planting took place at a temperature of 14-16 degrees and no shoots appeared within 15 days, then sowing will have to be repeated.
