What to do if fertilizers freeze over the winter: what to throw away and what to leave

Not all summer residents at the end of the season think about how mineral fertilizers will be stored in cold and damp rooms.

It's good if the ingredients are still in the original packaging and it's not damaged. But there are things you need to know, otherwise the useful additives may be useless.

First of all, this concerns liquid compositions with the prefix "Bio". Beneficial organisms living in solutions do not survive at sub-zero temperatures, and therefore in the spring this liquid can be poured out - there will be no use from it.

The fertilizers froze

1. If these are dry mixes, they should be kept in a hermetically sealed container. They are not afraid of frost, which cannot be said about humidity. But you also need to remember about the shelf life.

Liquid mineral fertilizers are stored without losing their properties.

2. If we talk about bulk mixtures of humates or biohumus, then these additives will again withstand negative temperatures, but it would not be superfluous to familiarize yourself with the manufacturer's instructions.

3. For biological preparations, even if they are not solutions, but powders and tablets made on the basis of useful microorganisms, freezing is critical. They can lose their useful properties already at a decrease to 10 or -5 degrees Celsius.

4. The same applies to growth and development stimulants. The preparations "Rostok", "Ekosil" and their analogues should be put in a warm place and stored in conditions not lower than 0 or +5 degrees.
