One of the troubles that befalls owners of capital greenhouses in the spring is algae and moss on the ground.

The scientist-agronomist, landscape designer, botanical artist, art therapist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told the online publication Belnovosti what caused the appearance of algae and moss.

Why is the soil in the greenhouse green in spring

1. Firstly, it is important to periodically ventilate the structure during the winter and certainly in the spring.

2. Perhaps the soil is acidic or the air exchange is disrupted, and moisture stagnates on the surface.

3. As a result of overdosing on fertilizers, there is an excess of phosphorus. The same can happen if you abuse humates and growth stimulants.

4. Don't forget about crop rotation.

5. You also cannot avoid problems if you install the greenhouse in a low place, in the shade, or cover it with dark material.

How to cultivate the soil

First, you need to ventilate the greenhouse, wash the walls and frame, and then take out the remaining garbage.

Secondly, remove 5-10 cm of the top layer of soil along with the moss. Add 15-20 cm of fresh soil on top.

Third, if necessary, deoxidize the soil.

And the last thing to do is to sow mustard or phacelia. Green manure is mown a week before planting.

These simple steps will help improve the health of the soil in the greenhouse.
