There are several nuances that you should pay attention to when choosing seedlings of fruit or ornamental plants.

Fertile soil, regular fertilizing and watering do not guarantee that a young tree will take root in a new place.

The problem may lie in the quality of the seedling. Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti , an agronomist and the author of the blog Conscious Gardening, told us what to pay attention to when choosing new plants.

First, you need to examine the root system. Priority should be given to seedlings that have at least 4 developed roots. Their length should be 20-30 cm.

A good sign is a large number of small roots. Such seedlings quickly take root in a new place and do not have problems with nutrition.

The color of the roots of healthy plants is brown. It is better to refuse to buy seedlings with black roots.

Secondly, you need to pay attention to the grafting site. There should be no wounds or damage. The bark of the seedling is smooth and shiny.

Black and dried buds are a sign of a bad seedling. Plants that are 1-2 years old take root best. Three-year-old seedlings have a more branched root system, so they will take longer to take root.
