Many novice gardeners complain that orchids are capricious flowers that cannot be preserved until the next flowering after purchase.

Belnovosti online publication expert, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh believes that orchids are very resilient flowers, and that they are ruined by the mistakes of young breeders.

Plant in regular soil

In soil from the ground, the orchid roots are not sufficiently ventilated and rot.

Instead, it is worth preparing a special substrate, which can consist of bark fragments, expanded clay, burnt pieces of clay, coconut fibers, and coal.

Use an opaque pot

The roots of the orchid, along with the above-ground part, participate in the process of photosynthesis.

If the pot is opaque, there will be a lack of light, which in turn will lead to a lack of nutrients.

Apply fertilizer after purchase

You shouldn't think that a "weakened" plant needs feeding. Firstly, the orchid is stressed due to a change in habitat, and secondly, the flower already received some nutrition in the greenhouse (store).

Instead, after transplanting into new soil, wait until the flower has finished blooming, and only then can you set up your fertilizing system.
