Probably, every summer resident grows carrots on his plot. The question is that not everyone succeeds in this process.
According to the expert of the online publication Belnovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , if you want to get a bountiful harvest of beautiful, and most importantly, tasty carrots, special attention should be paid to watering.
As a rule, seedlings of carrots sown in moist soil appear 12-14 days after planting.
Until you see 2-3 true leaves, you shouldn’t water the beds.
What will such “abstinence” lead to?
This way you can ensure that the central root stretches downwards, going deep for life-giving moisture.
In this case, the root vegetables will develop correctly and will ultimately be long and straight.
After the first leaves appear, carrot beds require abundant watering – make sure that the soil is constantly moist.
If you miss this moment, the orange root vegetables may crack.
With the onset of the second half of summer, the frequency of watering should be reduced, since the root crops that have gone deep are able to obtain moisture for themselves.
Stop moistening the soil completely 2 weeks before harvesting. This way the carrots will grow sweet, not watery.
