Alkaline soil on the plot is not a gift. Most garden and vegetable crops have some requirement in this regard.
And if you are not going to grow only beets with parsnips or grains, then the harvest of fruit and vegetable crops will be tight. We will tell you what to do.
In the garden and in the vegetable garden
Of all the useful plants, greens, onions with garlic, spinach and various spices such as leeks, marjoram, rosemary, mustard and ginger will feel good in such an environment. If the soil is slightly alkaline (pH 6.5-7.5), then rhubarb, legumes, cucumbers, cabbage, pumpkin and strawberries will grow.
What grows in alkaline soil
If we talk about useful crops, then these are black and white currants and plums.
Of the decorative ones - oak, Crimean pine, larch, yew, acacia and others, and of the shrubs - lilac.
Of the fruit trees, you can plant rowan, pear, apple, stone fruits, mulberry, hawthorn, sea buckthorn, and quince.
What to do with the soil
You definitely shouldn't put up with this situation. Excessively alkaline soil will have to be brought to the required level with gypsum.
Natural additives include high-moor peat, sphagnum moss, pine needles and so-called “acidic” fertilizers.
Another option is to sow green manure. For this, choose rapeseed or oats, rapeseed, lupine, clover and vetch.
