Food scraps don't have to go straight into the trash. Some of them can be useful: they can be used as fertilizer for plants in garden beds.

And bread crusts are no exception.

In general, any food waste can be processed into compost. To prevent rotting processes and the release of harmful substances, it is necessary to layer them with straw, peat or plant tops; you can add superphosphate and chalk if the soil is acidic.

Adding superphosphate helps organic matter to decompose faster. And tiny doses (grams) are needed, which are added to deep layers of compost, where birds cannot reach, and they are not dangerous for worms.

Bread crumbs are useful not only for compost. Bread can easily be used to make a universal fertilizer that many plants will enjoy.
