Chicken eggs have long been considered a cause of cholesterol problems, which has forced people to be more careful about their consumption.

But as foreign scientists have found out, chicken eggs should be present in the diet of those over 50.

The results of the study were published in the scientific journal Journal of Nutrition. It turns out that chicken eggs can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

What we managed to find out

Eating just one egg a week can reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and dementia by 47%.

Scientists have discovered that the protective effect is due to the presence of choline in eggs.

The substance is necessary to maintain the brain as we age.

But scientists don’t yet know exactly how choline affects brain health, and they plan to find out in further research.

For reference: one egg contains 147 mg of choline. The daily requirement of this substance for men is 550 mg, and for women 425 mg.

However, researchers point out that eggs alone will not prevent the development of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
