Can You Eat Watermelons in June: What the Experts Say

Surely many people know that June is not yet the time for watermelons. But you really want to taste this wonderful gift of nature.

By the way, they already exist. You can buy them. Another thing is whether it will affect your health (some people worry because they think such watermelons are “pumped up” with all sorts of growth stimulants and the like).

And what do the experts say? That the time for watermelons is the end of August and the beginning of September.

And now it's June. So one group of experts is very suspicious of June melons.

They say that the fruits contain nitrates, pesticides, and even dyes.

Other experts understand the term “nitrates” as “growth vitamins”, that is, mineral fertilizers necessary for plants.

They are widely used by domestic farmers, as well as by amateur gardeners.

By stimulating growth, nitrates ensure higher yields, say representatives of this group of experts in their defense.

According to them, watermelons are fertilized during the ripening period, by the end of which there should be no nitrates left in the berry.
They can be present in it in increased quantities only if the watermelon was picked unripe, for example, a week before full ripening.

Experts estimate the probability of detecting excess nitrates in the pulp as low.
