Who doesn't like to enjoy okroshka on a summer day? After all, it's one of those dishes that's a great help on a hot afternoon.

Traditionally, this soup was prepared with kvass, but more and more often you can find recipes that require kefir. The debate among cooks does not subside. But which is healthier?

Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh answered this question in a conversation with representatives of the publication “ Gazeta.Ru ”.

As the specialist explained, although the “correct” okroshka should be prepared with kvass, if it is store-bought, it is better to give preference to kefir, which is a probiotic and improves metabolism.

Otherwise, if you use kvass from the store, there is a risk of diabetes, gastrointestinal problems. The fact is that such a drink will contain flavors, dyes and sugar.

As for natural kvass, it is rich in vitamins, strengthens the immune system and is very refreshing.

The specialist also recommended not adding ham or sausage to okroshka. Boiled chicken, beef or veal are suitable as an alternative.
