The choice of wallpapers today is simply impressive in its beauty and diversity. With their help, you can make any interior beautiful and cozy.
But what to do with the kitchen? After all, this room is exposed to high humidity and pollution every day.
And in order for the wallpaper to cope with these difficulties perfectly and retain its original appearance for many years, when choosing it, you need to take into account some points.
Useful recommendations were given by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" in the field of design and interior design, Yulia Tychino.
Types of wallpaper
There are many types of wallpaper, but for the kitchen it is recommended to choose the following types:
• non-woven wallpaper intended for painting;
• vinyl on paper or non-woven base;
• glass wallpaper.
Now let's proceed to consider each type of these wallpapers.
Vinyl wallpaper
They include several layers - the base. It can be made of either paper or non-woven fabric.
It is the last option that is most suitable for kitchen finishing. And the top - decorative layer - is foamed vinyl.
The main advantage of vinyl wallpaper on a non-woven base is that it does not shrink or stretch when drying. And most importantly, due to its density, it masks minor flaws on the walls.
But they have a significant drawback. They do not let air through. Therefore, if you have leaking pipes and dampness in your kitchen, it is best to refuse them.
If there is fungus or mold on the walls, the walls must be treated before wallpapering.
Non-woven wallpaper for painting
They are made exclusively from non-woven fabric. Such wallpapers do not have a relief surface and look like paper.
In essence, it is paper, only denser due to the polymers that bind the cellulose.
Such wallpapers are used in cases when you want to paint the walls, but they are far from ideal. Such wallpapers are very easy to work with.
But there is one drawback - after painting, seams (wallpaper joints) may be visible. It is recommended to choose water-based paint for painting. They can be repainted no more than 4-5 times.
Glass wallpaper
They contain soda, clay, quartz sand and lime.
Unlike the previous types of wallpaper, glass wallpaper has good resistance to mechanical damage, it has an original pattern or relief, is not afraid of wet cleaning, is able to hide surface irregularities, and can be repainted up to 10 times.
For painting, it is also recommended to choose water-based paint. In stores, you can also find colored glass wallpaper that can also be painted.
Recommendations for choosing wallpaper for the kitchen
• Make sure that the rolls you have selected are from the same batch (its number is indicated on the packaging). If it is different, despite the fact that the wallpaper is from the same collection, then there is a possibility that they will differ in color by one or more tones.
• It is recommended to buy wallpaper with a small reserve (5-10%). You will need it in case of damage to the canvas during pasting or for local repairs in the future.
• When choosing wallpaper, always pay attention to the markings on the packaging. Marking in the form of a sun means that the wallpaper does not fade. Marking in the form of two waves means that these wallpapers can be wiped with a damp cloth. Wave with a brush - you can not only wash such wallpaper, but also wipe it with a brush.
• When choosing wallpaper, it is necessary to take into account that in bright lighting in the store, wallpaper samples look a little lighter. In reality, their color range will be a little darker.
