Curtains play a vital role in the interior.

They create coziness, stretch the parameters of the room, raising the ceilings for visual perception, create an intimate atmosphere and complement the decoration of the room.

But it is curtains that have the most mistakes when choosing due to the variety of colors, materials and simply the lack of experience of their owner.

The most common mistakes with curtains and how to fix them are discussed in detail by Yulia Tychino, an expert in the field of design and interior design for the online publication BelNovosti.

The curtains merged with the wall decoration

A common mistake is when curtains and trim merge into a single, nondescript spot in terms of color scheme.

This happens because the owner of the house is afraid to overload the space with colors or is generally not inclined to bright experiments. But this does not mean that similar curtains cannot be selected for beige walls.

It is important to remember that textiles should be a couple of tones lighter or darker than the wallpaper and existing furniture.

In a beige interior, the more halftones, the more dynamic the space looks. You can also be inspired by natural motifs and add chocolate, green, blue and gray to beige.

Lots of visual noise

The pattern on the curtains can overload the space with details and create so-called visual noise. The eyes will simply get tired of the motley colors, and a person will feel uncomfortable.

If the room already has a lot of details and textures, then the textiles on the windows should be plain and smooth. If the room tends to be minimalist, then you can play with the print on the curtains, for example, repeat the pattern from the decorative pillows or carpet.

The combination of plant ornament on curtains and indoor greenery looks especially interesting. In this case, it is impossible to overload the room with details.

Mismatch of tones

When choosing curtains, their future owner relies on the tones already present.

This is how products with full compliance or contrast in the color scheme appear. And both options can work for the benefit of the interior if the undertone is taken into account.

For example, the walls in the living room are dark green and similar curtains with a grayish tone are selected to match them. The combination in this case is a failure, since the walls are warm and the curtains are cold.

Contrasting tones should be chosen in a similar pattern, for example, cool lavender on bed linen and cool pistachio on curtains.

Disharmony in textures

Even if you managed to make the colors and their halftones work together, there is always the possibility of disharmony in textures. They can draw attention to themselves, or there will be so many of them that it will turn into a jumble.

For example, natural linen curtains do not get along next to velour on the chair, and velvet on the curtains will not accept a neighbor made of wool on the floor. You can avoid making a mistake in choosing textures with the help of style.

If the room is made in Scandinavian style, then it should contain only natural rough materials. Classic style accepts only velour and silk fabrics.

Lack of lighting

Blackout curtains are a good solution for people who sleep during the day. But thick curtains should be present only in the bedroom.

In other rooms, because of them, you will have to live in semi-darkness, with an element that weighs down the interior with its barely moving heavy folds. You need to approach the issue of choosing curtains rationally.

For the living room, if it is not used as a permanent sleeping place, you can completely abandon the curtains or choose dimouts, through which diffused lighting penetrates, cozy and comfortable for perception.

Curtains are the most important element in a modern interior. Mistakes in their selection can ruin even the most competent and stylish renovation.
