At first glance, rice and lemon don't seem to go well together.
In fact, rice porridge with citrus additive is quite an appetizing dish.
Oddly enough, this non-standard ingredient improves the taste of a familiar side dish.
Yulia Arkhipova, an expert in the field of cooking for the online publication Belnovosti, a cook and fourth-class baker, spoke about how to properly prepare “lemon” porridge.
Why add lemon zest to rice
Firstly, this ingredient will make the porridge much more aromatic.
Secondly, the dish will acquire a beautiful yellowish hue: the appearance of the dish will be very appetizing.
How to Properly Add Lemon Zest to Rice
First you need to cook the rice.
Next, you need to heat up the grated carrots in a frying pan. It is advisable to fry the vegetable in butter.
While the chopped root vegetable is being heat treated, remove the zest from one lemon: try not to get to the white layer, otherwise the citrus additive will turn out too bitter.
Add cooked rice to the frying pan with heated carrots, and after 2 minutes, add lemon zest.
Mix the resulting mixture well and fry it for another minute.
Next, turn off the burner and cover the pan with a lid: leave the dish untouched for at least 3 minutes.
As a result, the mass will infuse and you will get a delicious side dish that goes perfectly with meat.
