Never Do This When Boiling Potatoes: Common Mistakes

09.11.2024 02:20

Do you want potatoes to retain their beneficial properties and taste during cooking?

Then do not make the mistakes when cooking potatoes that were listed by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova.

Don't put potatoes in cold water.

Cold water causes starch and vitamins to leave the tubers. As a result, the dish is not as tasty and healthy as it could be.

Place the potatoes in boiling water - due to the sudden change in temperature, the starch will not have time to wash out, and the boiled potatoes will be crumbly and not watery.

Do not add salt at the beginning of cooking.

Adding salt at the beginning slows down the cooking process. As a result, the potatoes will have to be boiled for a long time, and there is no guarantee that they will not turn into mashed potatoes.

Add salt to the dish at the end, when the potatoes are almost ready.

Don't use too much water

The less water you pour into the pan, the more usefulness is preserved in the potatoes. Ideally, the liquid should cover the tubers by 1-2 cm.

Do not cook longer than necessary.

Overcooked potatoes have no flavor or nutrition, so be careful with cooking times.

For young tubers it is 15-20 minutes, for old ones – about 25-30 minutes.
