It is believed that the price of the main New Year's fruit - tangerines - invariably rises just before the holidays.
For this reason, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, advises stocking up on tangerines now.
Are you afraid that they won’t live to see the holiday feast?
Don't worry: if you follow a few simple rules, you can keep your fruit fresh for months.
Let us note right away: the option of storing in the refrigerator is not suitable because even minimal sub-zero temperatures “shock” citrus fruits, causing their skin and pulp to lose density and become covered with dark spots.
After a week in the refrigerator, the tangerines will completely lose their marketable appearance - you are unlikely to want to serve them at the holiday table.
The optimal temperature for storing tangerines is +6 degrees, so they should be stored in a cellar, where the air is relatively warm even in winter.
Wrap each tangerine in thick craft paper, then place them tightly in a wooden box and lower them into the cellar or, alternatively, take them to a glazed, insulated loggia, away from sunlight.
