The list of berries that were previously grown in gardens is not that long: it includes strawberries, raspberries, cherries, currants and gooseberries.

Today, the range of berries has expanded significantly – blackberries, chokeberries, blueberries and honeysuckle are also grown in different regions.

Let's talk about the latter: its health benefits are, of course, due to its composition, which includes vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Below, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, answered other common questions.

How to choose honeysuckle

The degree of ripeness of the berries can be determined by their color. The fruits can be picked when they acquire a uniform blue or purple hue.

Another indicator of ripeness is easy separation from the branch: just touch it slightly, and the berries themselves fall into your hand.

If you buy honeysuckle in a store or at a market, pay attention to the uniformity of the berries' color. Also check their integrity, as even a few damaged berries will significantly reduce the shelf life.

How to store berries

Fresh berries can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. It is recommended to transfer them to flat containers and spread them in a thin layer beforehand.

For longer storage, place honeysuckle in the freezer immediately after picking or purchasing.

Frozen berries can then be used for smoothies, pies and jam.
