Flour is used as a thickener for sauce or regular gravy. Each housewife has her own recipes and secrets for making them.

But sometimes the gravy is not thick enough. Is it possible to make it thicker without flour?

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova , a cook and fourth-class baker, told how to prepare or thicken ready-made gravy without flour.

If the gravy is ready, the flour may not dissolve well, which will worsen the taste of the sauce.

The situation is no better when there is simply not enough flour to make the sauce.

Is it possible to cook without flour?

1. You can safely continue cooking your favorite dish if you have mustard powder in the kitchen.

It will have a positive effect on the taste of the sauce, and at the same time improve the taste and aroma.

You can use ready-made mustard with the same success.

2. Of course, you can keep the sauce on the stove longer than it should be. This method is called evaporation.

The gravy will become thicker and will remain just as caloric, but the salt and sugar will be more noticeable.

3. You can use potato or corn starch. It is added to the hot mixture. After swelling, the sauce becomes thicker, but also more caloric.

4. Another option is gelatin. It does not affect the taste or color of the sauce. There is one drawback here - if you do not follow the dosage, you can make jelly instead of gravy.
