How to steam a dish if you don't have a steamer: Grandma's method - still works flawlessly

If you suddenly want to cook steamed dumplings or diet cutlets, but you don’t have a special device for cooking such “delicacies” at home, don’t be upset.

Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, believes that an improvised steamer can be easily made with your own hands, even in a summer house or outdoors.

This method was invented by our mothers and grandmothers in the era of total shortages, so it is very simple. To create a device for steaming, you will need only two items.

1. Saucepan with lid

It is advisable to use a deep saucepan, and preferably with a glass lid – this makes it easier to observe the cooking process.

2. Gauze or white cotton fabric

It must, of course, be clean, for which you can pre-wash it with laundry soap or dishwashing liquid and iron it.

It is best to avoid using washing powders, capsules and other products that are not intended for contact with food.

If you have everything you need, you can consider it a done deal – all that remains is to attach the gauze or fabric to the rim of the pan so that it hangs slightly, and place the food on it.

Earlier we shared a recipe for cheese pancakes in a frying pan – a delicious and quick breakfast.
