How to Properly Store Fruits and Vegetables in the Refrigerator: Everyone Should Know This

Probably everyone knows that before placing vegetables and fruits in a specially designated compartment of the refrigerator, they should be washed thoroughly.

This will help you get rid of pathogenic microorganisms that can lead to rapid spoilage of the fruit.

However, that’s not all – before storing vegetables and fruits, they should be dried no less thoroughly – this time to avoid the appearance of mold.

If you prefer storing in plastic bags, please note that you cannot mix different fruits and vegetables in one bag.

Those who do not use bags should arrange the food as follows: root vegetables and leafy greens next to each other, zucchini and bell peppers also next to each other.

Those fruits that have wilted a little should be placed away from their healthy “brothers” so that the spoilage process does not spread to them.

The same should be done with fruits such as apples, avocados, bananas, peaches, pears - in general, with those that produce ethylene. Place them away from others - to avoid spoilage.

Most modern refrigerators have a high-humidity drawer and a similar one, but with low humidity. The latter is suitable for vegetables and fruits: it locks in moisture and does not allow the fruits to be exposed to its harmful effects.
