How to explain to a child why they received the wrong gift from Santa Claus

The tradition of writing letters to Santa Claus is a very convenient thing. But even if parents find out in this way what their children dream about for the New Year, not everyone can realize their dream.

As a result, children get not what they expect, but what their parents can give them. A small misfortune can ruin the holiday.

Child psychologist Irina Taranova told OSN how parents can best act in such a situation.

Explaining to a child on a holiday why he received a different gift with a categorical “no” is not the best idea.

It is important to develop a strategy, not just for the winter holidays, but for any special occasion.

First of all, parents should understand for themselves that nothing terrible will happen if the child gets something other than what he asked for.

You can support a child's faith in good miracles with the help of a friendly atmosphere, family traditions, and so on.

Secondly, you need to discuss with your child in advance that New Year is not yet a reason to order expensive gifts.

Think about what useful thing could replace what you can’t afford.

But it is necessary to talk to children about alternative gifts, otherwise the New Year's mood will be spoiled.
