Cocoon, cradle or positioner: what is better for a newborn? Tips for a comfortable sleep of the baby

Every mother wants to create a safe and cozy space for her baby. But how to choose the right device among the many options?

A cocoon, a cradle, and a positioner are all designed for newborns, but they differ in functionality and period of use. Let's look at their features to make an informed choice.

Cradle: a cozy "nest"

A cradle is a compact sleeping place with soft sides, which is often equipped with a rocking function. It is suitable for sleeping and waking, and some models transform into a crib or changing table.

It is designed for children up to 4-5 months. It can be stationary or portable, with manual or automatic rocking. There are options made of natural materials (vine, wood) or modern electronic models with lighting and music.

Cocoon: a compact "house"

The cocoon resembles an oval mattress with sides or a depression that follows the contours of the body. Its main purpose is to imitate the tightness of the mother's womb, which is especially important in the first weeks of life.

The cocoon is used for up to 4-5 months. It is often supplemented with removable covers made of hypoallergenic fabrics (cotton, bamboo).

Positioner: A fastener for safe sleep

The positioner is a flat pillow with side bolsters that hold the baby in a side or back position. Recommended for preventing SIDS and protecting against choking during regurgitation.

The positioner is designed for ages up to 2-3 months. Some models are adjustable in width.

It minimizes the risk of rolling over onto your stomach during sleep, is lightweight and portable - convenient for travel, but at the same time limits the baby's natural mobility.

How to make the right choice?

1. Prioritize: Do you need mobility (cocoon/positioner) or durability (cradle)?

2. Consider the health of the child. In case of frequent regurgitation or neurological features, consult a pediatrician.

3. Pay attention to the materials. Choose breathable fabrics without chemical impregnations.

4. Check safety certifications. Make sure the device complies with standards (e.g. EN 16780 for children's products).

5. Test before you buy. If your baby is restless in a cocoon, a rocking cradle might be better for him.

Remember: it's not the brand or design that matters, but your child's comfort. Watch your baby's reaction and you'll find the perfect option!
