Positive Parenting: What It Is - 5 Principles

25.05.2024 03:30

There are different ways to raise children. Some parents prefer to be strict. Others try to spoil their child.

But extremes are always bad. That's why it's worth paying attention to such an approach as "positive education".

According to this method, mom and dad should see the successes and achievements of their child, and often ignore failures.

The emphasis should be on praise and rewards.

However, this does not mean that you should ignore all the bad behavior of the baby. There should simply be no harsh punishments that make the child fearful and indecisive.

So what are the principles of positive parenting?

Encouraging good

Always reward your child for success.

In some cases, gifts are needed, in others, simple praise or gratitude will suffice.

Calmness

Parents should not start shouting even if the child's behavior is very bad. Raising your voice, humiliating the child, or scaring him is not allowed.

The right punishment

Punishment must be directly related to the child's misbehavior.

Were you rude to someone? You should learn to be polite.

Got a bad grade because you didn't want to prepare for lessons? You need to complete the assignment and understand the material.

Broke something? This thing needs to be fixed.

In addition, sometimes it is worth giving up punishments altogether: forgive your child for some mistakes made.

Timely punishment

Positive parenting does not involve postponing punishment “for later.”

Parents set an example

And if mom and dad want their child to become a hardworking, responsible, polite, honest and strong-willed person, then they should behave in a similar way.

Earlier we listed the things that a father should teach his son.
