The 'Three-Minute Rule': Here's What Parents Should Do Right After Picking Up Their Child From Kindergarten

How do children usually behave when their parents pick them up from kindergarten?

They are happy to tell mom and dad about the events that happened during the day.

Moreover, we are not always talking about situations that deserve attention.

Often, a child simply lists the dishes he ate for breakfast or lunch. Or talks about the toys he had the chance to hold in his hands.

Usually parents get bored listening to this. They ask the child to be silent, thus making a grave mistake.

The essence of the "three-minute rule"

Every parent should understand the following: it is not easy for children to survive even a short separation from their mother and father.

As soon as the long-awaited meeting with loved ones happens, the child immediately wants to talk about the events experienced.

Typically, this activity lasts about three minutes. During this short period, mom and dad should engage in the conversation as much as possible, no matter how boring it may seem.

You need to listen carefully to all the child’s remarks and respond to them in detail.

Show interest and avoid using monosyllabic phrases ("uh-huh," "okay," "good job," etc.).

Follow the "three-minute rule" not only when you pick up your child from daycare, but also after any period when your child has been without parents for some time.

If you don't do this and don't listen to your active child, the boy or girl will become withdrawn. And then it will be very difficult to establish a trusting relationship with your own child.
