How to stop a child from lying: no need to punish the child or yell at him

One of the reasons why children lie is the fear of seeing a negative reaction from their parents.

A child who makes a mistake thinks that mom and dad will start yelling at him and come up with some kind of punishment.

That's why the kid doesn't want to admit that he broke a vase or got a bad grade.

How can you make your child stop lying? You just need to react correctly to your child's mistakes.

Advice to parents

See that your child has done something wrong? Do not yell at him or punish him under any circumstances.

And stop making accusations. Don't say things like: "You broke the vase!", "You spilled the sugar!", "You broke the phone!"

Otherwise, you will probably hear the following from your child: “It wasn’t me!”

However, it is still necessary to pay attention to the problem. Just do not focus on the fact that the action was committed by the baby.

You need to say the following: "I see a broken vase / spilled sugar / a broken phone." If you have problems with your studies, you need to ask: "Did you get a bad grade?"

Then invite your child to correct the situation.

If you communicate with your child in this way, he will not feel hurt. The child will not feel that he is being blamed, and will see support from his parents. This means that the fear of punishment will disappear.

This way, the boy or girl will stop lying and will not be afraid to admit to mom and dad the mistakes they have made.
