As the somnologist explained, sleeping in an uncomfortable position is fraught with back and neck pain, breathing problems, headaches, and heartburn.

The most harmful position, according to Gerasimova, is to sleep on your stomach.

The consequences can be very serious – even leading to chronic spinal diseases.

It is especially dangerous to sleep in this position if you have asthma or other respiratory diseases.

The most beneficial position for the spine and internal organs is to sleep on your back.

However, this position is contraindicated for people who suffer from snoring or apnea.

The side position is a good alternative for people who find it uncomfortable to sleep on their back, the doctor noted.

She clarified that it is better to sleep on the left side: this improves the outflow of bile.

Gerasimova also recommended airing out the room before going to bed and removing the TV from the bedroom.
