Vision correction with contact lenses is not suitable for everyone.
Ophthalmologist and microsurgeon Svetlana Mirgorodskaya warned about this.
A specialist told Izvestia in an interview who should not wear contact lenses.
Who should not wear lenses
Firstly, lenses cannot be worn if you have inflammatory eye diseases – blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis.
Secondly, some anatomical features of the eye may be contraindications.
For example, strabismus of more than 15 degrees, ptosis of the eyelid, subluxation of the lens, problems with the cornea.
Thirdly, lenses are contraindicated in cases of tear production disorders – dysfunction of the meibomian glands, increased lacrimation, severe dry eye syndrome.
Common medical conditions that may make it undesirable to wear lenses include asthma, diabetes, tuberculosis, mental disorders and HIV.
The doctor also recommended refraining from wearing lenses during colds, acute sinusitis, and exacerbation of herpes infection.
In addition, contraindications include seasonal allergies and taking certain medications (vasoconstrictor drops, steroids, diuretics).
All these factors can worsen dry eyes and worsen the condition of the cornea, the ophthalmologist explained.
