Foods to avoid when wearing braces can be divided into three main categories: hard, sticky, and staining.
Each of these categories can negatively affect the condition of your braces in its own way.
Solid food
This category includes nuts, chips, crackers, seeds, caramel, pretzels, popcorn – in general, everything that requires active chewing.
These products may cause the brackets to shift, change direction, and other problems, which may result in the system not working properly.
Sticky food
Sticky products include chewing gum, toffee, marmalade, soft caramel, processed and soft cheeses, cornflakes, etc.
If such food gets stuck in the braces, it can cause them to shift and also provoke the development of caries due to the proliferation of bacteria in the oral cavity.
Colouring foods and drinks
Here, you can probably do it without our help, naming such products and drinks as tea, coffee, red wine, sweet soda, berry juices and fruit drinks, beets and others that can stain ceramic or sapphire braces.
Such foods are especially harmful to transparent braces, as they can significantly worsen their appearance and reduce their service life.
