Constant use of the Internet helps protect the brain from a decrease in its functional activity.
This statement was made by neurologist Maria Cherdak.
The doctor noted that older people who constantly use the Internet show better overall indicators. They have better memory and verbal thinking, compared to those who do not use the Internet.
As the specialist noted, it can be said that this slows down the aging process of the brain, reduces the risk of dementia, the Izvestia publication reports, citing the doctor’s words.
She explained in an interview that the main task of the brain is to solve various cognitive problems. When active mental activity ceases, this can lead to problems. For example, a person risks facing Alzheimer's disease.
This is why pensioners need to periodically exercise their brains.
Working on a computer and using the Internet also involves cognitive load. After all, here you need to choose a set of actions, type messages, maintain concentration, for example, on a game, and so on.
Cherdak added that you shouldn’t sit at the computer for a long time, otherwise there is a risk of even getting the opposite effect.
As the doctor noted, it is enough to use the Internet for up to two hours a day.
