Scientists have found a link between bread consumption and brain inflammation.
An experiment was conducted with mice. The animals were given wheat gluten.
It turned out that this product provoked inflammation in the hypothalamic region of the brain, which affects the body's metabolism.
Experts from the University of Otago noted that such inflammation can lead to a host of problems, such as extra pounds, increased blood sugar levels. In addition, doctors noted that there is also a risk of memory problems.
At the moment, doctors have not figured out what exactly causes inflammation.
Gluten components are thought to trigger an immune response in the body.
They also reminded that gluten is a protein from cereals. It is found not only in bread, but also in pasta and confectionery.
The scientists' results were published in the Journal of Neuroendocrinology.
