The record for the longest fast in the world belongs to Scottish resident Angus Barbieri.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the man went without food for more than a year, namely 382 days – from June 1965 to July 1966.

At the start of his fast, Barbieri was 27 years old.

He made this decision because he felt that he had gained too much weight.

During his fast, the man consumed zero-calorie drinks – tea, coffee, soda water – and took vitamins.

In addition, the “starving man’s” diet sometimes included a small amount of milk or sugar with drinks – the Scotsman allowed himself this indulgence especially often in the last weeks of fasting.

During this time, Barbieri regularly visited the hospital so that doctors could assess his health.

As a result, Angus lost 125 kilograms – from 207 to 82. When the goal was achieved, the man stopped fasting.
