It's not such an innocent prank when a puppy or young dog starts pulling on the leash while out for a walk.

Experts say that in the future, if you ignore this habit, you may encounter serious problems when raising a dog. Here's what the owner needs to know.

Why does a dog pull on a leash?

The dog's temperament seems to have nothing to do with it. It's not because the puppy wants to run, and the owner can barely move his legs in the morning.

In this case, the dog has one goal - protest and the desire to subordinate the owner's will to its own will. In other words, the dog will walk the owner, and not vice versa.

If we talk about a puppy, then there is a clear hint at the leadership qualities that the pet wants to show.

Then the dog will refuse to follow the owner’s commands, and then will show disrespect altogether.

In such cases, you should not use a retractable leash.

How to wean a dog

1. You need to select a collar according to size.

2. It is better to use a short canvas leash and train the pet to walk next to the owner.

3. Other accessories are used to control the dog's will.

4. If the breed is large and aggressive, it is better to purchase a jerk chain or a choke collar.

5. Training is conducted in a quiet and empty place, after which you can move to noisy and crowded areas.

6. Beforehand, you need to let the dog do all its business and run around a bit. It has been noted that tired dogs remember their lessons better.

But you shouldn’t train your dog for longer than 20 minutes, and you can do no more than 2-3 training sessions during one walk.
