Scientists have conducted some interesting research, comparing the intellectual abilities of so-called “owls” and “larks”.
It turns out that the difference in chronotype affects not only lifestyle, but also the state of memory, logic and intellectual abilities.
The research was conducted by staff at Imperial College London, and the results were published by HuffPost.
It is worth noting right away that the scientists’ discovery does not apply to young people who are accustomed to leading an active nocturnal lifestyle.
The benefits appear exclusively with age and mainly in “owls”.
Having selected a group of volunteers consisting of more than 26 thousand adults, the scientists conducted tests, studying intelligence, logical thinking, reaction and memory capabilities.
It turned out that "owls", who are mostly active in the evening, coped with the task better than "larks".
At the same time, researchers note that the intellectual advantages of “owls” are revealed with age.
But for each chronotype, too little or too much sleep has an equally negative effect.
It has been noted that the norm for humans is considered to be 7-9 hours a day. Therefore, owls who are used to sleeping in the first half of the day are not always distinguished by high intelligence.
