Autumn pruning is considered mandatory, but not for all cultivated plants. In some cases, it does more harm than good.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist, landscape designer, told which plants should not be cut in the fall.
1. Azaleas and rhododendrons. These are plants from the same family. They are trimmed in the spring within three weeks after flowering.
For the rest of the period, these crops are busy growing shoots and accumulating strength for flowering in the new season.
If you cut them back in the fall, don't expect flowers next year.
2. You should also think before you start pruning forsythia. It also blooms on old wood.
It is better to plan a haircut for spring.
3. Lilacs are pruned after flowering or at the beginning of summer. This is mainly formative pruning.
1. Due to the tendency to fungal diseases that rage in damp autumn, it is better to prune cherries, peaches and plums in the spring or even summer.
2. Do not rush to prune pears. The autumn procedure can accelerate the growth of shoots, which is undesirable before the onset of cold weather.
Postpone pruning of pear trees until after the winter cold weather has passed.
