Incorrect watering of potatoes is one of the common reasons for a serious drop in the yield of this garden crop.

During some periods the plant does not need a lot of moisture.

During other periods, watering of garden crops should be abundant.

Many summer residents do not take these nuances into account, which is why they ultimately lose the chance to get a large number of high-quality tubers.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh named two mistakes that should never be repeated.

Overwatering after emergence

In the first period after the emergence of seedlings, the owner of a country plot must protect potatoes from excess moisture.

Otherwise, the plant will develop a superficial root system. And then the crop will become more vulnerable to high temperatures and drought.

You should avoid watering until the seedlings reach 10 cm.

Lack of moisture during the budding and flowering period

During these periods the plant needs quite a lot of water.

If the crop does encounter a moisture deficit at the end of budding and at the beginning of flowering, the tubers will turn out small and “watery”.

At this time, each bush should receive at least 10 liters of water. The procedure should be carried out 1-2 times a week.

Previously, fertilizers were listed that make potatoes small and tasteless.
