Sowing seeds for seedlings is accompanied by almost rituals. Summer residents look at the lunar calendar, recall grandmother's covenants and folk signs.

Just to grow strong seedlings, from which your hands will get tired of harvesting beautiful and juicy vegetables, this is not enough.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, reminded us of the main mistakes summer residents make when sowing seeds.

Forgetting the growing season

Each crop and variety has its own sowing time so that the seedlings do not sit on the windowsill for too long, do not get sick and bear fruit abundantly.

All necessary information is provided by the manufacturer on the seed packaging.

No depth control

Planting too deep affects germination. Sometimes the seeds rot without sprouting.

It is better to read everything on the packaging. On average, it is recommended to stick to a depth of 1-2 cm.

They don't control watering

It is recommended to sow on damp soil so as not to bury the seedlings even deeper when watering. In addition, high humidity leads to the formation of mold.

If it seems that there is not enough water, you can treat the soil with a spray bottle.

The seedlings are not ventilated

When creating greenhouses on the windowsill, gardeners forget to ventilate them, believing that the seedlings will die.

On average, it is recommended to ventilate once a day.

They don't monitor expiration dates

Seeds have a shelf life, and the longer they are stored, the less likely they are to produce quality shoots.
