To prevent the fight against weeds in the garden from becoming the meaning of existence, it is worth thinking about the reasons that lead to the appearance of new growth.
You can dig up the beds endlessly, but as soon as the seeds warm up or are exposed to light, nature will take its course, and there will be no end to this fuss.
Gardeners feel particular discomfort in areas overgrown with perennials - couch grass, goutweed, horsetail and other weeds. But when they start to develop virgin soil, gardeners forget that just one root will lead to new grass growth. And these are not all the reasons that lead to the appearance of weeds.
If you want to renew the fertile soil layer, be prepared for the fact that after distributing imported soil or manure over the area, the weed population will become wider.
At the very least, it is worth considering where the soil will be brought from. In order not to harm yourself with your own hands, do not be lazy to sift the soil.
If we talk about adding manure, then in addition to parasites and bacilli, you can introduce weed seeds into the soil. Let the fertilizer sit for the required period and only then apply it to the beds.
Homemade compost does not guarantee weed control either. Many seeds remain viable for up to 5 years. First of all, these are quinoa, nettle, shepherd's purse. The list is quite long, so you need to think in advance about what kind of herbs are put in the compost pit or heap.
The same applies to the rhizomes of the mentioned couch grass, sow thistle or goutweed. They can be rendered harmless only by drying them in the sun or fermenting them in water.
Usually, summer residents cut weeds with hoes or cultivators - it's faster than tearing the grass by hand. That's the catch - they approach weeding selectively. And you also need to not be lazy and sow green manure on empty soils, which can crowd out any weeds.
