Elderly people should never have sweet porridge or white bread with jam for breakfast.
Nutritionist Elena Solomatina warned about this.
Her words are quoted by Moscow 24 .
According to the nutritionist, the most harmful breakfast for people over 60 is a breakfast consisting of sweet semolina or rice porridge with jam, white bread with jam, fried pie with jam and sweet tea.
Such a breakfast, Solomatina explained, quickly increases blood sugar levels, which is extremely harmful for older people, who often have insulin resistance, prediabetes, or diabetes.
Also, sweet breakfasts lead to atherosclerosis, heart attacks and strokes.
Glucose surges have a destructive effect on the vascular endothelium, the nutritionist noted.
She recommended eating foods with protein, fiber and complex carbohydrates for breakfast.
Proteins are the building material for the body, fiber improves digestion, complex carbohydrates provide energy.
Breakfast should be changed every day. It is also advisable to alternate drinks, the specialist advised, specifying that drinks should be sugar-free.
