How to cook delicious and healthy barley porridge on water: the most underrated cereal

Barley porridge is considered the most underrated of healthy cereals today.

In addition to being a source of protein and iron, barley is rich in coarse fiber and slow carbohydrates, which means it allows you to forget about hunger for a long time.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova - a cook, fourth-class baker told how to cook delicious barley pudding.

Cooking tricks

First, the cereal needs to be cleaned of debris.

Secondly, rinse if you like viscous porridge. Those who like crumbly porridges should not rinse the cereal, but fry it in a dry frying pan.

Thirdly, keep the proportions. For crumbly porridge, take 1 part of cereal to 2 parts of water.

For liquid porridge, take 3 or even 4 parts water for one part cereal.

Fourthly, to make crumbly porridge, cook it for 15-20 minutes. Viscous porridge takes 25-30 minutes.

You will need:

  • barley groats 2 cups;
  • water 4.5-5 glasses;
  • vegetable oil 2-3 tbsp;
  • salt to taste;
  • butter to taste.

How to cook

1. Sort out the cereal and rinse before cooking.

2. Bring the water to a boil, add salt and vegetable oil, and then pour the cereal into the boiling water.

3. After the water boils, reduce the heat to low and cook the porridge under the lid for 30 minutes.

4. Remove the thick porridge from the heat, cover with a lid and a towel and let it sit for an hour.

Add butter and serve. Enjoy!
