There is no question about whether you need to peel a banana or citrus fruits. But with other fruits and vegetables, many people make mistakes.

Moreover, most people don’t even suspect how many useful things sometimes end up in the trash.

It turns out that some fruits are much more beneficial with the skin on.

First of all, you need to understand that all the harvest grown with your own hands in your garden plot is safe by default. Vegetables and fruits bought in the store, and especially those brought from far away in the off-season, do not forgive such enthusiasm. Here, it is better not to touch the food at all without a knife.

Fruits

In fact, you can eat all fruits grown in your area with the peel. Not to mention the summer cottage harvest.

This part of the fruit contains a large amount of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and other substances that have a positive effect on digestion.

Vegetables

With vegetables, things are a little more complicated, but this does not mean that you need to peel cucumbers bought at the market before eating.

The same applies to zucchini. They are peeled only when the vegetable is old or overripe. The skin is very hard, which can spoil the taste of the dish. But young vegetables are healthier to eat whole.

In addition, it is not necessary to peel young carrots either. After washing, it is enough to just carefully scrape off a thin layer, and then the bulk of the vitamins and microelements will enter the body, and not into the compost or trash can.

Before cooking, it is enough to just wash the young potatoes well, but it is not necessary to remove the thin and still translucent skin.

Otherwise, root vegetables should be thoroughly cleaned after long-term storage. At the same time, it is believed that it is healthier to boil potatoes in their skins and only then peel them so that the vegetable retains all its beneficial properties.
