Should You Give Vitamins If Your Child Is Healthy: The Most Reasonable Recommendation

It is believed that a healthy child does not need vitamins - however, subject to certain conditions.

There is no need for vitamins if:

  • the woman received a complete and balanced diet during pregnancy, rich in vitamins, taking into account the increased need for them;
  • after birth, the child received the same complete and balanced nutrition, which provides him with all the nutrients, including vitamins and elements necessary for their absorption;
  • the child spends enough time in the sun.

What to do if all of the above was not observed – give the child vitamins? And again, everything is not easy.

Perhaps it is necessary, but the decision can only be made by a doctor after examination and assessment of the child's development. It is important to remember that an excess of vitamins can be no less dangerous than their deficiency.

Perhaps the most sensible recommendation is to find an experienced pediatrician and discuss with him the need for taking vitamins or multivitamins.

When you see your doctor, describe your diet (if your baby is breastfed) and/or your baby’s diet (if he or she is formula-fed or mixed-fed).

When your doctor prescribes a test, get tested and receive individual recommendations that are right for your child.

This way you will preserve your baby’s health and save your family budget.
