How to Teach a Child to Be Independent: 3 Ways

18.07.2023 10:20

Any good parent takes care of their child and protects them from possible dangers.

There is nothing wrong with this. Quite the contrary. However, it is important not to let the situation reach the point of overprotection.

Excessive care can cause the baby to fail to develop independence.

A boy or girl will be afraid to do something without permission from mom or dad.

To prevent this and raise an active, proactive and successful person, you need to develop independence in your son or daughter.

To do this, you need to follow three simple rules.

Give up prohibitions

There is no need to forbid your child everything.

Does he want to go for a walk? Give him such an opportunity. Has the kid expressed a desire to participate in cleaning the apartment? Do not refuse his help.

Does a boy or girl want to try riding a bike? Don't stop them: let them learn. Yes, there will be falls and bruises, but there is no other way.

Of course, you can't allow a child to do dangerous things. But you shouldn't forbid a child to do something harmless.

Give the right to choose

Let the child choose what to wear today. Maybe today the kid wants to be in a red T-shirt, but you make him wear a green one.

At first glance, this moment is not of fundamental importance. In fact, the emergence of the right even to such a choice develops independence in the child.

Assign chores to your child

Let the child be responsible for something in the house. For example, for washing dishes or for cleaning his room.

Over time, the boy or girl can be given more serious tasks.

This approach will give an excellent effect. Firstly, in this case the child will feel that he/she is contributing to the improvement of everyday life.

Secondly, the baby will become more active and self-confident.
